Bedroom Makeover
Okay, so I briefly touched on how I redecorated my room in my last post when I mentioned what I've been up to in quarantine, but I wanted to explain in further detail just how easy this was and exactly what I did.
I use the term redecorate lightly, because all I did was shift a few things around and buy some items off the internet to spruce the room up. But it was so easy and has done wonders.
I used to think of my room as just a place for me to sleep and get dressed, but now I find myself spending a lot more time in here and I wanted to be able to shoot content in here for my blog and Instagram.
Stupidly, I didn't take any before shots so you'll have to just take my word for it.
The first thing I did was move my bed around. This was hard work and something I had put off for many years. It was so heavy due to my boxes full of clothes that are stored in the bed. But we managed to do it. This now gives me full access to the natural light from the window and I'm able to use my full length mirror. Hello mirror selfies. You can already see the change in my Instagram content.
Once my bed was in the ideal place, I needed to dress it up. Before it was just pillows and a duvet, nothing exciting.
First I needed to decide on a colour scheme and after endless scrolling on Pinterest, I finally opted for blush pink, grey and navy.
I then got online and ordered a new duvet set, cushions to decorate the bed and a new throw. I need one more small cushion to go at the front, but I'm waiting to find the perfect one. It is also worth mentioning whilst I was on Pinterest, I also looked up a few different pillow texture and arrangements to see which would suit my bed best and look the most inviting.
They're not pictured, as they're for functionality, but I also bought some silk pillowcases to sleep on as I've heard really great things to help with skin and hair issues. The link says they're silk, but I think they may be satin! Either way they feel boujee.
I still need to order a new lampshade and some cool art prints to put in my windowsill, so if you have any recommendations let me know in the comments!
Everything I bought bed related:
Navy Velvet Cushion
Blush/Grey Reversible Bedding
Charcoal Throw
24" Charcoal Teddy Pillows
The next thing to tackle was my bedside. I know this doesn't look amazing, but don't like to clutter this with too much stuff and I like everything I need to be accessible.
One thing I really love is coffee table books and these are some that I found on my bookshelf after I had cleared it out.
I couldn't find the links for these as I bought them years ago, but I got them from The Works so it's definitely worth venturing in and having a browse. If you're happy to spend a bit more, then look on Amazon for the Chanel and Tom Ford beauties.
I also keep my Alexa on here, she plays sleep sounds for me to fall asleep to and my humidifier to avoid a stuffy nose and throat in the morning from the dry air.
Storing eyeshadow palettes was beginning to become the bane of my life. They're always too big and they come in weird shapes so you can't store them all together in the same way. After some thorough searching on Pinterest for storage solutions I managed to come across these wire baskets, and they're the best investment I made.
No drilling required, they came with these super strong hooks that stick to the wall and they are able to hold all this weight. I had them all up in about 10 minutes. I went for white as I didn't want them to stick out and look like eyesore, as they're not for aesthetics they're for convenience. At least this way they blend into the wall.
I ended up buying 3 so I could also store my skincare products and vitamins in there. Now every morning as I'm getting ready I never forget to apply any of my serums or take any of my vitamins because they are in my face. It's impossible to avoid them. A great life hack.
The faux flowers were bought in store a few years ago from Wilko's, can't find them online but they were £1.

I briefly touched on this earlier, but lately in the hotter weather the air in my room gets really dry and I wake up with a sore throat and a cough. Considering were currently going through the coronavirus pandemic, it is not great to be showing these symptoms. Every day my Desi mom is trying to shove lemon water down my throat to "kill the virus."
I would rather get an indoor plant, but as we're only shopping for essentials right not and we're in lockdown I needed an alternative for the time being. After reading online, a humidifier seemed the best thing to get.
I jumped on Amazon again, I didn't want anything too big that would takeover my bedside table and I didn't want to spend a lot either just in case it didn't work and because I do plan on buying some sort of plant. I also wasn't interested in the ones that need essential oils or whatever.
Recommendations for indoor plants that oxygenise a room well are very welcomed BTW.
After a lot of browsing this was the one I ended up purchasing. It's actually a portable one, but it was cheap and had great reviews so I thought why not. Also, it can be used in the car so if I ever decide to upgrade it I can always use it there.
All you do is screw the lid off, fill it with water and press the button on top. It even has different light settings which I think is rather cool.

The jewellery box I had been living with was novelty hot pink chair. I've had it since I was 13, so I thought it was definitely time to upgrade. Although that one was very cool, the capacity wasn't great. So I browsed Amazon for something a bit more appropriate.
I ended up loving this one, it had great reviews, it looks super sleek and it was really affordable. My only gripe is that it looked way bigger in pictures, but the measurements were provided I just ignored them. Trying to fit all my jewellery in was a bit of a squeeze, but all that means is I have to manage what I have, and not overload it and I do actually prefer the smaller size on my dressing table, it doesn't take over it.
I think it looks really good, the drawers and sections are big enough to store everything I need, and you really can fit a lot into it given the size.

When I said that eyeshadow palette storage was the bane of my life, I lied. My shoe collection is. This picture shows a small snippet of the amount of shoes I have. It doesn't even come close. I have a huge shoe carousel on top of this, but that is so unsightly I wouldn't dare put it on the internet.
This bookcase was previously used for any misc objects in my room it had books, films, CD's. ornaments and lots of other random crap too. It was stuff I never used, and it seemed like such valuable space in this tiny room.
So I decided to clear it all out. I threw out anything I no longer saw myself using or anything I wanted to keep I stored away in the garage. I then made it the perfect place to store all my black boots. It wasn't until this point that I realised just how many I actually had.
My metal shoe stand then became predominantly my trainer stand. If you have one of these metal stands you know that any shoes that are boots or have high tops of some sorts are really difficult to store. So now all my shoes are clearly visible and my rack is no longer a mess. I'm not saying it looks great, but it was another storage solution.
