Why Fashion Weeks Do Not Excite Me Anymore

remember years ago, whenever Fashion Week would approach I'd spend hours trawling through the internet, visiting blogs and scrolling through twitter in a hope to see what unique concepts and styles might make an appearance.

However in today's day, that couldn't be further from the truth. I prefer to avoid social media altogether.  Yes, I still like to see who wore what and what looks were debuted, but the novelty has worn off entirely.

It used to be all about the fashion. The new collections, what and who would be walking the runway, who is sitting on the frow etc. It was a fashion lovers favourite time of year and it was so elite.

Now it just seems like a competition between bloggers on who can wear the most ridiculous and outrageous outfit possible. If you actually turn up in something on trend and fashionable, you barely get noticed.

The sanctity of Fashion Week, specifically London, has been compromised. I honestly now am of the opinion that it has been made a mockery of by people who are just looking to get papped outside a show.

Not only that, but I hear a lot from people I follow on Twitter etc, that the city is literal hell. The streets are even more mayhem than usual, paparazzi are in the way desperately trying to get a shot of some celeb and those that work in the customer service industry are treated like utter shite.

I just feel like it used to be a really special time for fashion lovers, and I do understand that in some respect it still very much is. But it is definitely something, I personally, have fallen out of love with. I mean, I have barely been following it this season. I have checked out a lot of the looks debuted, courtesy of Snapchat, but I haven't gone out of my way and nothing I have seen has really excited me, like it did before.

I think a lot of people aren't excited about it. Most of what I have seen online is not people who care for the fashion, but care for which shows Hailey Baldwin and Kendall Jenner will be walking in. Bore off.

I don't know if I'm alone in thinking this, but I also find it almost a little pointless now.

With the rapid growth of social media, and how easy it is to click on a designers page to see their new aesthetics for the season, fashion week just isn't necessary anymore.

I used to follow the shows for inspiration on what to wear and what to look out for in stores, but you really don't even need to do that anymore.

Inspiration is all over the net, and the rules are just way more liberal now than they were before. You can literally wear whatever you want and not be judged for it. Trends don't need to be followed and if I am perfectly honest, I think a lot of brands are struggling to keep up with the internet, let alone set the trends ahead of them. Balenciaga is probably one of the only ones I see ahead of the game, but then they take things to the extreme at times trying to be different.

I do believe it's great for creating that buzz ahead of a new season and new collections, but I think once it's over it's forgotten about almost instantly.

My heart is torn writing this, because as I have said, I LOVE Fashion Week and have done for a really long time. It would take a lot for me to boycott it completely, but I am at a loss. I do try to get hyped up like a lot of others on my socials, but I can't force myself to be involved in something I think is a bit fake.

Sighhh, I am signing off now. I just wanted to get this out of my system. I'm sorry Fashion Week, I hope one day we can resurrect our love affair...

  1. Hmmm...what an interesting but also a sad read? It seems social media has been both a force of good and evil but it seems in this case it has jaded the sanctity of Fashion week. I hope you continue to find inspiration from it despite the drama because I can tell you have a genuine passion for it.
